Last Thursday, I was working on our next post, tantalizingly entitled “Marinating in Standards,” when the lights went out.
As predicted, a storm bringing 50 m.p.h. gusts and 18 inches of heavy snow had knocked our power out.
Power outages are a thing in New England but in recent years — at least for us — they tend to be one-day affairs at most. (Thank you New Hampshire Electric Coop.) By Friday, however, we were still out, and thus my husband and I began a multi-day odyssey of emptying the fridge, pulling out the coolers and finding somewhere warm to sleep with running water.
Apparently, the source of our outage was a cracked pole — not an easy fix.
In any case, this is a long way of telling you that we are taking a break this week from posting to reset and restore households and routines.
We hope you are safe, dry and warm, having perhaps enjoyed the great show in the sky during today’s total eclipse.
We’ll be back in your inbox next week!
